Teaching cyber security, computer networks and systems

Within the Bachelor's program in Applied Informatics at our university, there is a strong emphasis on practical training in cybersecurity and network technologies. Students have the opportunity to work in a modern lab equipped with a wide range of network components and server technologies, known as the Security Operations Sandbox (SOS). This hands-on approach enables students to not only understand theoretical concepts but also apply them in real-world scenarios.

Students acquire foundational knowledge in courses such as Fundamentals of Computer Networks and Protocols, where they learn about network structures and protocols. The course Fundamentals of Cybersecurity emphasizes the need to protect data from cyber threats, introducing encryption techniques and security protocols.

Courses like Computer Networks in Practice and Network Communication Analysis allow students to analyze real data flows and identify potential security risks using advanced tools within the SOS. Here, students gain valuable experience in network monitoring, detection, and prevention of cyberattacks.

The SOS is also equipped with virtualization platforms, which are utilized in courses such as IT Architecture and Infrastructure and Infrastructure Virtualization Platforms. In these courses, students learn to deploy and manage virtual infrastructure while ensuring data security in cloud environments.

Practical training in the SOS plays a crucial role in preparing our students for real-world challenges in cybersecurity, system monitoring, and modern IT infrastructure management. This approach ensures that graduates are well-equipped to tackle practical problems that arise in the IT and security sectors.
